The St. Mary’s Visual Arts department has much to celebrate this year. The Scholastic Art Awards is a national awards program providing early recognition to creative teenagers in visual art and writing. Scholastic honors a small selection of graduating high school seniors with scholarship opportunities. This year St. Mary’s had hundreds of submissions to Scholastic in the Visual Arts category. We had 34 students win awards for their submissions, including 91 pieces winning awards at the regional level: 40 Honorable Mentions, 25 Silver Keys and 26 Gold Keys.
Two outstanding St. Mary’s students went on to receive awards at the National level. Graduating senior Kelly Smith is recognized with a Silver medal. One of eight National Gold Medal Portfolios, the highest award distinction, was awarded to Will L.C. This award comes with a sizeable scholarship to a school of the students choosing and recognition at the National Ceremony this June at Carnegie Hall. We are incredibly proud of our St. Mary’s students dedicated to the visual arts, our Scholastic Art Awards participants, winners, and all of our students who help to provide this new Visual Arts department with much enthusiasm and passion for creative endeavors.
Congrats to all those who participated and earned awards!
