Academic Support

• Provide a clear and centralized identity and structure for academic student support

   

• Establish a defined workflow that supports the needs of currently enrolled students, applicants with learning needs and incoming students and families

• Define policies and processes for academic student support and communicate these clearly with faculty, students and parents

• Meet as a CORE team weekly to maintain a pro-active awareness of students’ academic or personal need for support

Students who:

• Have a diagnosed learning difference through Classroom Accommodation Plans (CAPs)
• Need long or short term academic support for medical conditions or injuries
• Require accommodations for an unanticipated personal or family crisis or other emergency
• May be diagnosed with a learning difference during the year
• May be diagnosed with a social-emotional condition requiring support
• Want occasional academic support or simply a quiet place to study
• Need other identified academic assistance (NHS Tutoring, Study Skills)

St. Mary's Academy is a college preparatory high school.

We are proud of our curriculum and the learning and skills it provides to our students and graduates. To maintain the integrity of our program, St. Mary’s does not modify its curriculum or change what a student is taught or expected to learn. However, we strive to accommodate by adjusting instruction or access to the material – for example by adjusting the physical environment, the formatting or timing or an assessment.

A CAP is St. Mary’s version of a 504 or Individual Learning Plan. Students may be eligible for a CAP if they have:

• A plan in place with current documentation
• A documented learning or physical disability that do not have a current plan in place
• A learning need and are in the process of being evaluated.

A CAP provides accommodations that may include extended time on tests and projects, audio books, the option to record lectures, a designated study block for 1:1 support from an ASC teacher, or preferential seating. Accommodations are generally based on the recommendations provided through a professional evaluation.
