Familiarize yourself with the exciting world of theatre through collaboration, games, and performance! Participants will work with SMA Theatre Alumna Julia Wells '23 to put together their own productions on the SMA stage. Campers will learn to take risks and strengthen their theatre skillset through engaging activities, play, and creativity. Become accustomed to the world around St. Mary's Academy by bopping around downtown and exploring theatres near SMA.

Artful Engineering | June 22-26

Join the Beta Blues Robotics Team for a hands-on STEAM camp where art meets engineering in the most creative ways. We’ll blend technology, creativity, and compassion in a fun, supportive environment.

Create tech-powered art using LEDs, circuits, and 3D printing. Build playful, take-home projects that combine imagination with innovation. Adapt toys for children with Cerebral Palsy, and see how engineering can make a real-world difference.

No experience needed—just bring your curiosity.

Artists of all skill levels come explore the arts at SMA. Students will work on projects using photography, painting, drawing, and ceramics. Students will be exploring new materials and developing techniques. We will take a field trip to the Portland Art Museum, around the corner from SMA!

Join SMA staff and student leaders for a week of babysitting skill-building and fun! Campers will learn the fundamentals of babysitting from safety and child-development to entrepreneurial and business-skills. There will be a focus on problem-solving, how to navigate new or unfamiliar situations when you’re “in charge,” and practical skills that will serve new and experienced babysitters alike. These leadership skills can easily be transferred into daily life as campers grow in their independence as middle-schoolers and consider future leadership and job opportunities. Included in camp will be a third-party training for campers to earn their babysitting CPR/First Aid training and certification.

Upcycled Fashion Camp | July 13-17

Turn something old into something new and beautiful again by upcycling materials into mixed media collages, sculptures, jewelry, fashion, and more!  

In a world where 84 percent of our clothing ends up in landfills and incinerators, it is imperative that we take a close look at the impact of the things we buy, own, and discard. Campers will learn about the environmental impact of fashion and other industries, focusing on issues such as fast fashion and textile waste. They will also learn about sustainable manufacturing methods and companies that are trying to make positive changes. Parents, be sure to join us at 12:00pm on Friday for a fashion show showcasing our work from the week!

Stop Motion Animation Camp | July 13-17

Learn the magic of stop motion animation from a professional animator!  Throughout the week, campers will explore the fundamental principles and techniques of animation, the basics of visual storytelling, and how to use clay, cut-out paper, felt, and found objects to bring their ideas to life.

We’ll watch and discuss classic animated films to learn from the best. At the end of the week, campers will have made their very own 15-30 second short film!

Campers will develop their recipe repertoire over the week, giving them a cookbook of dishes they feel confident cooking by themselves at home. They will learn kitchen safety, cooking fundamentals, and how to bring their culinary visions to life. Each day will have a food theme: campers will cook and eat a new recipe or two while focusing on a different aspect of the cooking process. In the afternoons, campers will participate in a cooking-based game modeled after shows like Chopped or The Great British Baking Show. We’ll also work on some fun cooking-related crafts throughout the week!

Girls take a fun, hands-on approach to science at St. Mary’s Academy! A variety of activities will engage campers in the basics of physics, chemistry, and biology including analyzing polymers like the ever-popular slime and delving into forensics and food science. High school students work with campers individually and in teams, encouraging girls to discover their potential as future scientists. Grab your goggles, don your lab coat, and spend a week exploring the science labs of St. Mary’s Academy.

STEM Like a Girl | July 13-17

Calling all curious girls! At STEM Like a Girl camp, youth will explore hands-on activities covering a range of STEM concepts while learning about the design process and hearing from female STEM mentors. Investigate the chemical properties of polymers by making slime, extract DNA from a strawberry, design a solar powered fan, and so much more! Whether your girl is new to STEM or a budding scientist, this camp will build confidence and problem-solving skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. At the end of the week, parents and caregivers are invited to join us so the girls will share their projects.

Summer Storytelling | July 20-24

Attention all writers and storytellers! In Summer Storytelling, we’ll dive into the core elements of the storytelling process, develop our own creativity, and create our own stories. During this weeklong camp, campers will explore different types of stories and storytelling (chapter book, play, comic), choosing which they’d like to focus on for their weeklong story creation.  In the mornings, campers will build their storytelling toolkits by learning how to brainstorm story ideas, develop characters, and connect with their reader or audience. In the afternoon, campers will put their new skills into action during focused time to work on their own story. Campers will create their own cover art and illustrations so that their story will become a finished book by the end of the week.

Crafty Creations Camp | July 13-17

Crafty Creations Camp is a fun, hands-on art camp designed for creative 3rd and 4th graders who love to make things. Each day, campers explore a new type of craft—painting, sculpting, collage, and DIY projects— while learning basic artistic techniques in a supportive low-pressure environment. Campers will experiment with color, texture, and design while creating projects they can take home and be proud of. Activities encourage imagination and collaboration with friends.
