Escribe Maria is the  student-run literary and visual arts magazine of St. Mary’s Academy! Escribe Maria is a proud recipient of multiple first place awards as a part of the American Scholastic Press Association’s annual magazine competition.  Specifically, the 2022 magazine earned the first-place Scholastic Magazine Award!

Ben Peterson, the faculty advisor, says, "Escribe Maria is one of the spaces where students get to determine outcomes. I get to just be there, encourage, and advise, but ultimately the students are free to shape the space as they see fit. They’ve always told me that they value the freedom to exist in a space of their own creation. Each Escribe leadership team I’ve advised has set out to create an issue vastly different than the year before. In the 2021-2022 school year, the Escribe team set out to create a maximalist design layout which required them to learn new software and design techniques. It’s an amazing issue and one that only those students could produce."

Mock Trial is a statewide program that allows students to take on the many roles that are a part of our legal system. Students research and conduct trials using real-life cases. Participation in the fall training class results in earning .25 credits and the opportunity to try out for the spring competition teams. Participation in the spring competition teams results in an additional .25 credits earned. 

Model United Nations (MUN) is a statewide organization that simulates the United Nations during a three-day conference in Eugene. Students represent a different country each year and present resolutions, discuss global issues, and participate in assigned committees.  St. Mary's MUN delgates are chosen by application and instructor consent.

For the 2022-23 school year, St. Mary's is representing The United Kingdom. Four of our group have been chosen to serve as Committee Chairs for the State of Oregon Conference in Eugene.  Over the years, SMA has been known for having knowledgeable and articulate delegates, consistently taking home at least one student committee award for best representation of her country's position and one award for consensus builder.

This is an independent study course with weekly meetings for new members. A student taking MUN will earn .5 Social Science credits for each year they complete all the requirements and attend the Conference at the University of Oregon.

Clubs are a great way to find community and discover your interests!  Most clubs meet once a week during lunchtime. Students often join multiple clubs and enjoy making connections with peers in all grade levels. Club offerings change each year depending on student interest.

Yearbook is an elective offering that students elect to take as a semester or for the year.  Students participate in all phases of yearbook production, including graphic design, copy writing, photography, layout design, theme development, and business procedures. Top editorial positions are decided based on experience and leadership skills!
