School Managed vs. Personal Apple ID

St. Mary's issues a managed Apple ID for all new students, faculty and staff. The primary reasons we use this is to allow for 200GB of iCloud backup/storage and for the option of teachers to use the Classroom App.

A personal Apple ID is also required as that is what will be used by students, faculty and staff to purchase/download Apps, books, etc. from Apple. This can be an Apple ID that already exists or you can set up one through Note: As long as the Apple ID is unique to a person it can be part of Family Sharing offered by Apple.

In selecting an iPad case, the three most important requirements are:

  1. Impact protection for the corners, sides and back (plastic or rubber is best). Fabric cases do not last or protect well so they not allowed!
  2. Protection for the glass screen when not in use.
  3. The ability to prop the iPad up at an angle for better typing ergonomics.

Where is the responsible use policy?

It is included in the Parent-Student Handbook or click here.

iPad Contracts

SMA iPad Contract

SMA iPad Opt-Out Contract

SMA iPad Summer Contract (SMA online classes only)

Students can opt-out of using an SMA provided iPad at any time and use their own as long as it meets the requirements of the opt-out contract.

Transfer Student and Freshman (Class of 2023) iPad Tech Camp

Tech Camp this year will take place at 8:30am on September 4th at St. Mary's Academy.

Class of 2023 iPad Information

The class of 2023 will be receiving the iPad Generation 6 (model A1893).

For families that are opting out of an SMA iPad in favor of their own they must be an iPad Pro, Generation 5 or Generation 6 with at least 128GB of storage.

Who owns the iPad?

SMA iPads are owned by the school and must be returned at the end of each school year. Students are given the option to purchase the iPads at a reduced price only upon graduating from SMA.

St. Mary's Academy 1:1 iPad program and beyond ...

We began our 1:1 iPad program in Fall of 2013 and it has been very successful. The dramatic changes in classroom learning have been extraordinary and we strive to not only improve on that model but to provide information to other schools on how they can transition to a 1:1 iPad program smoothly.
