St. Mary’s Academy Awarded Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation Women in STEM Grant

St. Mary’s Academy is proud to announce we are one of eight honored organizations to receive a grant from the Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation for support of Women in STEM efforts. In June, in honor of Marie Lamfrom’s 125th birthday, the Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation announced it would be awarding $1,000,000 to regional nonprofits that encourage women’s participation and leadership in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). We are honored and grateful to be one of the awarded organizations.

This transformational gift will enable St. Mary’s Academy (SMA) to launch our Transforming STEM Initiatives project. This will begin with equipment upgrades, a critical first step in the longer-term goal to expand our STEM program and initiatives, including support for our talented faculty to deliver exceptional curriculum and expanding existing classroom space to offer upgraded capabilities in a fabrication environment that offers instruction to transfer skills across class sections.

The entire student body, along with our talented faculty will be benefit from this funding. This grant will greatly impact our ability to provide cross-departmental learning in a space designated for design, engineering, robotics, mechanical development, building and collaboration. The needed equipment upgrades will allow our students to work in a classroom with tools that offer access points for inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking.

Principal Nicole Foran says of the grant, “St. Mary’s Academy is grateful to the Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation for this funding, and we are proud to be acknowledged by a foundation that understands and celebrates the value of women in science. Thanks to this opportunity, we know SMA students will continue to provide leadership and innovation in STEM following in the legacy of the women of the Lamfrom family.”
