St. Mary’s Academy Artists Receive Scholastic Awards
Of the 3,700 submissions within our region’s Oregon Art Scholastic Awards, 19 of St. Mary’s Academy students took home an impressive 36 Awards including three Gold Key and nine Silver Key Awards. The Visual Arts students at SMA are motivated to express their skills, inspiration, and creativity. Our students use their art to convey challenging messages that speak to real-world issues. Visual Arts Instructor, Julia Grieve shared, “we are so proud of these students and their drive to create work that matters in this world.”
Gold and Silver Key Award winners make up only 12% of all submissions. Jurors from the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers look for works that “exemplify the Awards’ core values: originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.” Entries are selected for awards without knowledge of the student’s gender, age, ethnicity, or hometown by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts. These awards give students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships.
These award-winning pieces were displayed, along with other visual arts pieces, at St. Mary’s Academy’s Visual Arts Exhibit on May 15 the night of our Spring Concert. Thank you to all who attended!
