The St. Mary's Alpine Ski team has a lot to celebrate. After an undefeated season finishing first place in the Mt. Hood League and coming home with the league trophy, SMA racers commanded the league podium by dominating four of the top five positions individually for varsity women—Senior, Payton Bogatin came in 1st, Junior, Evie Kim in 2nd, Junior, Aspen Hand in 4th and Freshman, Renate Becker in 5th. Senior, Ava Houtman also delivered a top 10 league finish in overall points.

This dynamo team of varsity racers were joined by senior alternates, Lorin Stephens and Mary Lazaris to compete in the State Championships on March 3 and 4 at Mt. Hood Meadows. Fifteen teams came from all over Oregon to compete in two days of Giant Slalom and Slalom competitions. St. Mary’s delivered a stellar performance on day one and secured 2nd place in the Giant Slalom. On day two, they once again proved their fearless racing abilities and delivered a combined team result of 3rd in the state. Senior, Payton Bogatin led the team in both disciplines and was recognized in the top 10 overall. Four of the SMA varsity team ended up the top 25 out of over 120 racers who qualified for state.

With a deep roster of talent, we are excited to see this team develop and to continue to provide a commanding presence on the mountain for years to come.
