Blues Welcome New Coaches

The St. Mary’s Athletics Department is proud to welcome two new head coaches leading fall sports programs for the Blues, and several new assistant coaches.

The new head soccer coach, Greg Martin joins SMA with an extensive background. Greg competed at the high school, college, and club level before moving to coaching at the club, high school, and adult levels. Greg has 26 years of coaching experience, taking his teams to state, regional and national level tournaments. His high school coaching experience includes taking his PIL-champion, Franklin boys’ team to the OSAA 4A State semi-finals. Coach Martin is the co-founder and director of Saints Soccer Academy.

Coach Martin will be joined by new coaches, Perry Hammonds as JV Coach, Alison Hardin as JV2 coach and Austin Rogers as the goalkeeper coach. Coach Corrie Racanelli, who served as JV2 coach last season will be the new varsity assistant coach for the Blues.

The SMA volleyball program is excited to have Wendy Stammer as their new head coach. Stammer’s resume includes competing in high school, at the DI level in college, and 18 years both indoors and on the beach domestically and internationally. Coach Stammer has been a club and high school coach for the past 25 years, leading Lakeridge to the 2013 OSAA 6A state championship. Additionally, Wendy founded and directs Volleyball Alliance club, as well as Portland Jr. Beach Volleyball program.

We are also happy to have Sean Daugherty join our program as varsity assistant volleyball coach; SMA alumna and staff member Jourdan Ellis as JV volleyball coach; alumna Jane English as JV2 Navy coach; and alumna Natalie Nielsen returns to lead the JV2 White team.

SMA Cross country also welcomes a new but familiar face with the addition of Carrie Yerton joining their ranks as an assistant coach. Head coach Charles Douglas and assistant Gil Gongora are back and looking forward to a great season for the team.  Go Blues!
