Leadership Announcements

Dear St. Mary's Families:

We believe that there has never been a better time to attend an all-girls school and there has never been a better time to be a St. Mary's Blue! We have exciting news to share with you for the 2018-2019 school year as we continue to expand and evolve our curriculum to bring your daughters innovative, creative, and relevant programs for today's world.

Enhanced Curriculum Design and Instruction

On February 1st, we embarked on a search for an Assistant Principal of Curriculum Design and Instruction, a leadership position that evaluates current curriculum, and implements innovative opportunities both in our current building and for our future campus expansion. We interviewed qualified applicants from all over the country and are thrilled to announce that St. Mary's own Liane Rae has accepted our offer to lead us in this new endeavor. It was important that the ideal candidate be a "futurist," someone who is generative and asks the important question: "What's next?" We are confident that Liane is this person.

Liane came to St. Mary's last year from Cathedral School where she developed curriculum, provided professional development and support for their 1:1 iPad program, created a Mobile Makerspace, and developed unique hands-on and inquiry-based activities. We look forward to Liane's continued impact on SMA.

A Robust Leadership Program for Young Women

It is no secret that St. Mary's Academy already provides a unique leadership experience for young women and yet next year we will take our program to the next level. We are happy to announce that Michele Taylor, our Sr. Director of Leadership and Activities, will step into the newly created position of Dean of Leadership and Activities. Our enhanced leadership program will offer our young women many new opportunities, including a multi-level leadership certificate program, expanded mentorships in the community, internships with local businesses, and management training. We have already witnessed Michele's success in empowering young women to tap into their gifts, develop their voice and develop into leaders who speak to the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Names.

Expanded Academic Support Services

St. Mary's works to empower our students by helping them recognize and develop the talents within themselves. It is at the heart of what we do.

We also recognize that some students need additional support and services including managing classroom accommodation plans, planning for extended absences, providing study skills training, and helping our students balance workload and commitments. We are excited to announce that next year, Alena Kelly, our current Assistant Principal of Academics, will step into a new leadership position that will manage these important responsibilities. As Assistant Principal of Academic Support, Alena will oversee the academic support team that comprises the learning center, the counseling team, and our Teacher Advisory (TA) program. We look forward to Alena's leadership in supporting our students as they develop these critical lifelong skills.

At St. Mary's, we know that women are far more empowered when we encourage each other and work together to learn, to play, and to make change in our world. We believe in girls who lift each other up, and we witness this every day. We hope that you are as enthusiastic about our enhanced program offerings as we are. At St. Mary's, we are passionate about our unique opportunity to prepare your daughter for a life of commitment, confidence, contribution, and fulfillment.

As always, please feel free to visit with me if you have questions. Thank you for partnering with us on this exciting journey. May God bless you.

All my best,

Nicole Foran
