In her senior year alone, Tavia Roaché has spent nearly every activity block and lunch collaborating with group members of the Black Student Union, UNITE, Woman in Color and Student Equity. She also competes in in volleyball and track, represents SMA though the Ambassador program and led and MC’ed SMA’s MLK Assembly, all while keeping up her studies.
It was the big space in the center of downtown Portland, known now as St. Mary’s Academy Clark Auditorium, where Cecily Revermen had her first “a-ha” moment and realized her passion for theatre was more than just a hobby. “It really wasn’t until I got to St. Mary’s where I thought ‘I can do this for sure, I can pursue this’. There’s a confidence that was built there,” Cecily recalls.
The Academy Awards is a special tradition that honors a St. Mary's graduate whose outstanding accomplishments exemplify the spirit and mission of St. Mary's Academy!
On October 16, 1987, I walked up the steps of St. Mary's Academy for my first day of work and nearly 32 years later on January 18, 2019, I will walk down those same steps toward my next chapter -- retirement.
Olivia is one of seven high school students in the Portland metro area involved in a new student ambassador program at the Blanchet House that is aimed to help middle school students become more involved in community work outside of the classrooms.
“I’m excited and humbled all at the same time. People have been very supportive of me entering this role and that feels really good,” says Teri, who as of October 25, officially serves as President for the Rose Festival’s board of directors.
A new program in 2018, the Student Tech Internship gives students hands-on experience in areas of tech support, customer service, project management and troubleshooting right within our campus walls. Co-facilitated by Ellie Gilbert, Instructional Tech Coach, and Brette Doyle, Information Technology Director, and modeled after programs at other high schools, the program seeks to create real, hands-on experience for current students while serving a need within the St. Mary’s community at the same time.
Little did Ashley Woodall Sheridan ‘01 know that when she applied for the role of Principal at Holy Trinity Catholic School, it would also include building maintenance, part-time therapist, and human resources in addition to the expected responsibility of overseeing academics, students and faculty & staff. “It’s been a very winding road”, Sheridan would pleasantly describe, years later. “A Principal must be able to step into many different shoes depending on the day.”
Since the kickoff of Fall sports, the athletes at St. Mary’s Academy have shown nothing but an abundance of dedication, support, and leadership from the pitch and track to the floors of the gymnasium.
