SMA Winter Sports Recap

What a great season for winter sports at St. Mary’s.  We are excited to share the latest from each of our fantastic teams.

The varsity team finished the season with a record of five wins and two losses coupled with a strong performance at the District Meet.  Their performance delivered a second place finish in the Three Rivers League (TRL) and included sophomore Anna Rauchholz taking the award for the highest scoring female in the entire District and sophomore Hazel Alejos finishing in the top three.

The JV swimmers finished their season at the TRL JV District Meet at Lake Oswego Aquatic Center on Feb. 13 with outstanding performances from the Blues.

Four St. Mary’s students went on to swim at the OSAA 6A State Meet securing four top-ten finishes, and Anna Rauchholz taking the top prize in 100M Back earning her All- American status.  Congratulations Blues swimmers!

Alpine Ski Racing

The Blues Alpine Ski Racers consistently delivered winning runs throughout the season and maintained their hold among the Mt. Hood League frontrunners as they headed into league finals.  Payton Bogatin finished strong in 6th place overall in the league and Kayla Vandercoevering finished close behind in 9th

Nine St. Mary’s skiers will compete through this weekend at the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association’s (OISRA) State Races at Mt. Ashland in Southern Oregon. After a highly competitive first day of racing, St. Mary's sits in 12th place.  They ski Slalom today, and we wish them the best of luck as they finish out the state competition.

The Varsity Blues finished a tough Three Rivers League season even with a record of 7 wins and 7 losses, relying on their resiliency and grit to take their spot in the OSAA playoffs.  They took on Forest Grove High School on March 3, taking home a 65-49 win over the Vikings and will travel to Beaverton High School tonight, March 6, to compete against the Beavers, the current #1 team in the state.

The JV and JV2 teams worked hard throughout the season to hone their skills and learn new strategies to find success on the court. Both teams provided lots of exciting play over the course of the season giving their opponents fits with unrelenting defense and hustle on the court.

Nordic Ski Racers

The Blues Nordic Ski Team was consistently paced by Ella Whitaker, Amelia Leonard, Julianna Smith, Sophie Dorn and Lanie Redder this season. The team participated in their last regular season meet on February 15, with Ella Whitaker and Julianna Smith taking 4th and 5th respectively.  They traveled to Mt. Bachelor on Feb 21 & 22 for the OISRA State Race finishing 8th overall.
