St. Mary's Academy hosts three appeals hearings on campus
On September 13, St. Mary's Academy was host to the Oregon Court of Appeals. The Hon. Timothy Sercombe, Hon. Meagan Flynn, and Hon. Roger DeHoog heard arguments on three cases and attorneys representing both sides of each case spent time after their arguments talking to SMA students about their paths to becoming attorneys, why they love what they do, and why they think their work is important.
On that last note, a big theme from the day, one that continued into the Q&A session with the judges following the end of hearings, was of public service. The attorneys and judges all talked about how they were influenced to become lawyers by the urge to serve the public.
The on-campus court session was an amazing experience for the young women at St. Mary's Academy, and we are grateful for the generosity of the Court, its judges and staff, and our Board Chair, Kent Roberts, who helped to bring the event to SMA.
