Attention all writers and storytellers! In Summer Storytelling, we’ll dive into the core elements of the storytelling process, develop our own creativity, and create our own stories. During this weeklong camp, campers will explore different types of stories and storytelling (chapter book, play, comic), choosing which they’d like to focus on for their weeklong story creation.  In the mornings, campers will build their storytelling toolkits by learning how to brainstorm story ideas, develop characters, and connect with their reader or audience. In the afternoon, campers will put their new skills into action during focused time to work on their own story. Campers will create their own cover art and illustrations so that their story will become a finished book by the end of the week.

Are you a musician? Do you want to rock out this summer? Sign up for SMA’s Rock Band Camp! During the week-long camp students will choose songs to learn and practice with the help of current SMARB members, culminating in a performance for friends and family at the end of the week. Students enrolled in the camp will gain music experience and performance skills in a collaborative environment and most importantly, have a blast!

Please note: This camp is for students who already know how to play an instrument and feel confident in their ability to learn and practice songs independently (this is true for singers as well) since we will be working towards perfecting these songs in a relatively short period of time. Students should also feel okay about performing in front of an audience. Though we have some gear (full drum set, keyboard, microphones and small percussive instruments) it is preferred that students bring their own instruments and gear.

What to expect:
Day 1:  Students will select songs with the help of camp leaders based on group skill/experience level, instrumentation and interest. Students will spend the rest of the day learning their songs with the help of camp leaders, with some games and ice breaker activities sprinkled in.
Days 2-4: Student's time will be spent rehearsing songs, learning performance skills and engaging in other fun music related activities (including making band t-shirts and pins, playing musical games, and a possible off campus music related field trip, depending on what local events are happening.)
Day 5: Student will have a final dress rehearsal before their performance!

Join SMA staff and student leaders for a week of babysitting skill-building and fun! Campers will learn the fundamentals of babysitting from safety and child-development to entrepreneurial and business-skills. There will be a focus on problem-solving, how to navigate new or unfamiliar situations when you’re “in charge,” and practical skills that will serve new and experienced babysitters alike. These leadership skills can easily be transferred into daily life as campers grow in their independence as middle-schoolers and consider future leadership and job opportunities. Included in camp will be a third-party training for campers to earn their babysitting CPR/First Aid training and certification.

Cross Country Camp

Soccer Camps 
Girls Entering Grades 6-12

Session 1: June 11-13 (9:30-11:30 a.m.) Price: $75

Train with St. Mary’s Academy coaches and players and learn about Blues Soccer! Learn how to play a Rapid Style of Possession while also discovering tools to succeed at high school and higher-level soccer. SMA Head Coach Greg Martin will be running the camp and has over 29 years of coaching experience. He also serves as a Director/Technical Director of Coaching for Portland Competitive Club. The St. Mary’s soccer team competes in the 6A division of the OSAA and made it to the 2nd Round of Oregon High School State Playoffs in 2022 and made it to playoffs in 2023. Grow your skills and meet other SMA athletes!

Volleyball Camps

Girls Entering Grades 5-8 | August 5-7 (9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) Price: $175
Volleyball camp is run by head coach Wendy Stammer and assistant head coach Sean Daugherty.  This camp is geared toward skill development for all levels of play and includes technical training for serving, passing, setting, hitting, and defense. There will be individual skill development, partner drills, and group drills.  There will be several opportunities for game play throughout the camp which can be anywhere from 2 v. 2 to 6 v. 6 team drills.  Players will be grouped according to their skill level, not the age of the player. This ensures that we are advancing each group and teaching them at a pace according to their skill level.  5th-6th grade players will be placed in groups that use a volley lite volleyball and 7th and up will use a regular weight volleyball.

St. Mary's high school team camps are run by head coach Wendy Stammer and staff. They include individual skill development, partner drills, team drills, and SAQ (Speed, Agility, Quickness). New players entering St. Mary’s in 2024 will be placed with groups that will benefit their skill development and/or overall experience with the sport. This camp will help players gear up for the high school season which starts the following week. We want all players to leave the gym feeling like they have learned something new and looking forward to playing!
