Working With Women and Children Fleeing Domestic Violence
Placements include working with women and children who are fleeing domestic and/or sexual violence and are now living in shelters. Most volunteers work in the children's programs, though other volunteer opportunities may be available at the shelters or agencies.

Bradley-Angle House addresses the special concerns and needs of women and children affected by domestic violence. Volunteer your time to work with children, help with fundraising activities, in the administrative office, on the crisis line, etc.

This agency serves women and children who have experienced (or are currently experiencing) domestic violence. Volunteers can assist by working at the shelter (answering crisis line and working with women at the shelter); working in the children's program for kids currently living at shelter; or providing childcare for moms who are in one of the domestic violence support groups. All volunteers need to attend a 36-hour volunteer training which is offered four times a year.

Raphael House is a shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence situations. Students will likely work in the shelter's Children's Program, doing activities such as reading to the kids, playing games, going on field trips, etc. A volunteer training is required.

This shelter for homeless women and children fleeing abusive relationships is one of the largest of its kind in Multnomah County. Work is primarily in the children's program, spending time with kids and learning about their specific situations. Training and an orientation to Domestic Violence will be provided.

Home Free is a domestic violence intervention program with a 24-hour crisis line. Home Free assists women and children with temporary and permanent housing plus on-going support groups. Volunteer opportunities exist to help with donations received at the shelter and with the children.
