PORTLAND MALL LIGHT RAIL CONSTRUCTION NOTICE

We've recently been informed by Tri-Met that on Monday, June 11th (this coming Monday), Fifth Street will be completely closed between Market and Harrison (which is south of the school a few blocks).  The small street that runs to the south of our building, Mill Street, will be closed as well.

The entrance to St. Mary's Academy will change to the doorway on the corner of Sixth Street and Mill, so please drop off and pick up your daughters on 6th Street.

This will be in effect from June 11, 2007 until the end of August, 2007.  If you'd like more information, you can log onto www.portlandmall.org or call one of the 24/7 hotlines: emergency 503-962-2222 or pager 503-940-7753.

We apologize for this inconvenience and are working very hard to make sure this is a safe transition for your daughters' last two weeks of school.

ADDED 6/8/07

Construction begins on 5th Avenue between Market and Harrison

Light rail construction on 5th Avenue between Market to Harrison streets is scheduled to begin in mid June and last up to ten weeks.

Vehicular access will be restricted during this phase of construction:

• 5th Avenue will be closed between Market and Harrison streets.

• Mill, Montgomery and Harrison will be closed at 5th Avenue (local access will be maintained).

• MAX and Streetcar service will not be affected during this phase, EXCEPT during an approximate two-week shutdown of Market in order to cross the Streetcar tracks. The MAX and Streetcar track crossing construction will shut down Streetcar operations for one weekend (date to be determined), TriMet bus shuttle will be provided.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the work zone, with short detours at intersections and temporary bridges across 5th Avenue.

In the roadway, crews will be digging, jack hammering, installing utilities, welding, setting rail and paving. Work will occur Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. After 6 p.m., construction will be limited to activities that generate little to moderate noise. Flood lights will be used to ensure safety. Following this phase, this area will reopen to vehicles and crews will continue with lower impact finish work.
