ST. MARY’S ACADEMY NAMES NEW CAMPUS MINISTER

The St. Mary’s Academy community is abuzz with excitement over the new Campus Minister, Randy Kollars.  Previously the Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministry for the Archdiocese of Portland, Kollars comes to St. Mary’s with a wealth of experience.  And ironically, Kollars began his long career of youth ministry running campus ministry and teaching at St. Francis Catholic High School, an all-girls’ school in Sacramento, CA.

In his more than 25 years working in the field of youth ministry, Kollars has designed and developed youth and adult ministry programs; completed a multitude of training and educational programs;  performed comprehensive strategic planning; conducted retreats, immersion workshops and workshops; and led Papal International World Youth Day trips, among other things.

“I have a passion for seeing our young people grow in their faith,” says Kollars.  “Teaching and campus ministry in a Catholic school present a unique opportunity to call young people to discipleship while integrating them into the broader Catholic community and caring for the whole person.”

Kollars is a resident of Milwaukie, Oregon.

Founded in 1859 by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, St. Mary’s Academy of Portland, is Oregon’s oldest continuously operating secondary school and one of 716 all-female schools in the country.  The student body represents a diverse background of young women from over 30 urban, suburban, and rural communities in Oregon and Southwest Washington.  St. Mary’s Academy is distinguished by its development of the whole person, and is the only school in the state to receive three U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Schools awards.
