PROFESSIONAL VOLLEYBALL PLAYER TO COACH AT ST. MARY’S ACADEMY

Gayle Stammer has been ranked as one of the top ten volleyball players in the United States, was an alternate for the 1996 Olympic Team, and has won the Seaside Volleyball Tournament three times.  She has coached at the high school, club, and college level for over 12 years.  Now she is coming to be the Head Volleyball Coach at St. Mary’s Academy in Portland, Oregon.

“With her extensive background and wealth of experience, our players and program couldn’t be in better hands,” says St. Mary’s Athletic Director Anna Maria Lopez.  St. Mary’s will welcome Stammer at a reception in June, in time for summer camp and playing opportunities.

Stammer graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Business Management and most recently has been coaching and teaching at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California.  She also has been organizing and facilitating volleyball operations for all colleges in the Coast Conference as conference chairperson.  At the same time, she has been working as club director and head coach for the Main Beach Volleyball Club, overseeing the coaching staff, parent relations and club operations.

Founded in 1859 by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, St. Mary’s Academy of Portland, is Oregon’s oldest continuously operating secondary school and one of 716 all-female schools in the country.  The student body represents a diverse background of young women from over 30 urban, suburban, and rural communities in Oregon and Southwest Washington.  St. Mary’s Academy is distinguished by its development of the whole person, and is the only school in the state to receive three U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Schools awards.
