HEAD SOCCER COACH ADDED TO ST. MARY’S ROSTER OF SPORTS TALENT
In keeping with its mission to educate the whole individual, St. Mary’s Academy recently hired a worldly new soccer head coach whose coaching philosophy is “to use the discipline and teamwork that soccer offers to develop better attributes for life in (players’) personal and professional life.” Walter Arevalo will be the new head soccer coach for the school.
Currently an instructor and evaluator with the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and the Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA), Coach Arevalo previously has coached at Centennial and Forest Grove High Schools. He has referee experience as a USA Soccer Federation Referee and OSAA High School Referee. Coach Arevalo also has semi-professional experience from his tenure playing for Ricardo Bentin in Lima, Peru. In addition to his soccer experience, he is a goalkeeping conditioning and training specialist.
Coach Arevalo received his degrees from University San Martin de Porras, Peru; Portland State University, Oregon; and the U.S. Air Force Community College. He is highly accomplished in karate and competed in the World Karate Championships in 1990 and 1994, and is an international karate referee and coach.
