ST. MARY'S ANNOUNCES NEW VOLLEYBALL COACH NIKKI JONES
St. Mary's Academy is proud to annouce the tenth head coach to lead its volleyball program in 33 years, Nikki Jones. A graduate of Laurelhurst's All Saints School and La Salle High School, Coach Jones competed collegiately at St. Mary's College in Moraga, CA. Her coaching career includes positions at Northgate High School in CA, and most recently working for three years leading the JV team at Portland's Grant High School, where her father, Tom Jones, led a successul basketball program.
In addition, Coach Jones has led the last two club seasons at the Multomah Athletic Club, guiding with the 16-U and 18-U teams, respectively. This past season, her 18-U team finished 12th in the Columbia Empire Regional Tournament competing against teams from Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Coach Jones describes herself as an inspiring, motivational coach who leads by example and finds joy in hard work. She's proud to follow in her father's coaching footsteps, saying that "he taught me that pride in sports builds character and personality; he showed me that a commitment to athletics is one of the greatest ways to build life skills for the future." With her goal of blending her passion for coaching with a commitment to mentor young women into strong, successful members of society, Coach Jones will be a wonderful asset to the SMA community and a living model for its mission.
