Stranski Signs Letter of Intent

Stand-out SMA swimmer, Kara Stranski, has signed a Letter of Intent to compete for the University of Kansas next year.  Stranski has been a big part of the SMA swim program and was a member of the 2009 team that finished third at the OSAA 6A State Meet.  Stranski was the 2009 State Champion in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.67 and was a member of the 200-Yard Medley Relay Team that also won a state title.  Stranski was also recognized as the 2008-09 Mt. Hood Conference Swimmer of the Year.

Blues Finish Strong at Districts & State
The swim team finished an outstanding year with a strong showing at the district and state meets. The team finished second behind a strong David Douglas team at the district championship held at Mt. Hood Community College on February 12 & 13. Individuals qualifying for the OSAA 6A state meet were Kara Stranski, 50 &100 Free; Ellena Basada, 200 IM & 100 Back; Maranda Alf-Huynh, 100 Breast; Alexis Perry, 100 Back. Also, SMA qualified in all 3 relays. The 200 Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay.

The strong team effort carried through to the state meet where the team finished seventh overall with 72 points. SMA swimmers place 3rd in the 200 Medley Relay, Kara Stranski placed 2nd in the 50 and 100 Free, 6th, 200 Freestyle Relay; Ellena Basada placed 5th in the 100 Backstroke and 9th in the 200 IM; Alexis Perry placed 11th in the 100 Backstroke; Maranda Alf-Huynh placed in the 100 Breaststroke.

The Swimming Blues are dedicated to hard work, personal achievement and teamwork in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Our JV and Varsity squads comprise swimmers of all capabilities, from beginners to National qualifier. SMA swim practice is daily during the winter season at the PSU pool.
