Blues Ready to Make a Splash

The Swimming Blues from St. Mary’s Academy are poised to make a splash this winter as the high school swimming season gets underway. They’ll be led by new co-head coaches Samantha Sahnow and Holly Vander Schaaf.

Returning from last year’s squad are senior standout Rory Kearns, junior Natalie Kowell and sophomore Sophia Hatzikos.

Kearns, who will lead the team this year with co-captain Cecilia Sahnow, is one of the leading distance freestylers in the state. Expect to see her shine again in the 500- and 200-yard freestyle races. She is also a talented butterflyer. Kowell is a key member of the SMA medley relay team and Hatzikos will be back for more butterfly, individual medley and freestyle this year.

Additionally, the Blues are looking forward to welcoming a number of talented freshmen to the team, many of whom have swum with local US Swimming clubs.

As always, the swimmers at St. Mary's Academy anticipate not only continued success in the Mt. Hood Conference, hoping to better their second-place position from last year, but a season filled with hard work in the pool resulting in personal achievement and a team that is bonded by effort and friendship.
