COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY POLICY
Integrated Computer Applications
Grade: 9,10
Prerequisite: None
Credit: Requirement/0.5
Length: 1 Semester
Integrated Computer Applications is an introduction to the PC and to Microsoft Office Professional 2007 which includes Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint. Students learn the elements of desktop publishing using Adobe InDesign and Publisher. Students learn word processing techniques, graphics, telecommunications, computer research, desktop publishing, multi-media slideshow, spreadsheets, and digital photography. They use various peripherals including color laser printer, scanner, and digital cameras. Students learn to type by touch and continue working on speed and accuracy throughout the semester. The first semester of this class is integrated with Religion and English.
Media Design
Grade: 9,10,11,12
Prerequisite: Integrated Computer Applications or Instructor Approval

Length: 1 Semester
This course introduces students to digital movie making and digital still cameras. Students learn to plan, shoot, edit, and enhance video projects with transitions, titles, music, and special effects using Adobe Premier Elements to edit their movies. They design, edit, and augment their still photographs with special effects using Adobe Photoshop. Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Publisher are used to create professional presentations which include brochures, pamphlets, posters, and other layouts.
Graphic Design
Grade: 9,10,11,12
Prerequisite: Integrated Computer Applications or Instructor Approval
Credit: Elective/0.5
Length: 1 Semester
Students learn Adobe Photoshop CS2 and elements of graphic design and layout. They learn to modify scanned photographs and explore common photo editing issues. Students create images using text, painting, drawing, and apply various special effects. Microsoft Publisher and Adobe InDesign are used for layout of students' designs. Students complete a series of design projects using effective layout and design concepts. This class offers excellent preparation for the school yearbook and newspaper class.
Advanced Graphic Design
Grade: 9,10,11,12
Prerequisite: Integrated Computer Applications or Instructor Approval

Length: 1 Semester
Students learn to maximize Adobe Photoshop's performance. Painting and advanced filter techniques and combining and manipulating photos to create unusual and creative effects are covered. Students learn numerous Adobe Photoshop CS2 advanced techniques to create professional-looking designs using scanned art, illustrations, and photographs. Adobe InDesign is used for design layout. Students create, correct, and enhance images for print, multimedia, and the World Wide Web.
Modern Business Management
Grade: 10,11,12
Prerequisite: None
Credit: Elective/0.5
Length: 1 Semester
Modern Business Management focuses on business topics such as the stock market, saving and investing, money and financial institutions, international trade, marketing, insurance, taxes, and global economics. Researching careers, interviewing for jobs, resumes, and cover letters are also studied. A business consultant from a local firm sponsored by Junior Achievement visits the class weekly. Students prepare a business plan and run their own corporation from conception to end.
